EAK has been a Full Member of EA since June 2000
EAK is a Signatory to the EA MLA in the field of accreditation of laboratories and inspection bodies since 12 March 2004 and in the field of accreditation of certification bodies since 18 March 2005. In addition EAK is a Signatory to the EA MLA in the field of accreditation of GHG verifiers since 10 April 2014. See certificate on EAK Signatory status to the EA MLA:
EA MLA
Until 1997, the European national accreditation bodies have been handled separately by EAC (European Accreditation of Certification) and EAL (European co-operation for Accreditation of Laboratories) concerned with certification bodies or with laboratories.
These organisations have joined to form European Accreditation (EA) which now covers accreditation of all European conformity assessment activities.
EA is pledged to play a key part in eliminating technical barriers to trade by:
- achieving a uniform approach to accreditation throughout Europe
- achieving universal acceptance of accredited certificates and reports
- building and maintain confidence among nationally recognised accreditation systems
- supporting the harmonised implementation of accreditation standards
opening and maintaining the interchange of technical knowledge among MLA signatories and associate members
- achieving traceability of measurement
- maintaining and developing multilateral agreements (MLAs) within EA itself and with non-member accreditation bodies or regional groups
